This family oriented, free Hispanic Heritage festival is hosted by Norsan Media. The event commemorates Mexican Independence Day since it’s one of the Hispanic community’s most significant celebrations. The festival is rightfully named “El Grito” as it marks Mexican Independence Day with a “cry of independence” or Grito as it was done in 1810 to motivate Mexicans to declare independence from the Spanish regime.
Regional Mexican live music is a very important element of this event and has included world renown artists. El Grito features an appearance by the Mexican Consulate and an official Hispanic Heritage Proclamation by the North Carolina Governor. Live events such as Lucha Libre, Children’s Fun Zone, and Cultural Dance presentations give this festival a special and attractive flare. This festival is always FREE and open to the public!
